Demitri Telfair: Where Martial Arts Meets the Way of the Bow

Some warriors are born with discipline in their blood. Demitri Telfair is one of them.

Based in Taichung, Taiwan, Demitri is a BJJ black belt with over 24 years of martial arts experience and 213 combat matches. He is the founder of The Bears Den BJJ and MMA, and his competition record reads like a highlight reel – gold medals from Taiwan to Tokyo, Manila to Hong Kong. A 5-0 professional MMA record. The man knows how to fight.

But what does a grappler have to do with archery?

Everything.

The Warriors Mind

Both archery and martial arts demand the same thing: absolute presence. When you are on the mat, a wandering mind gets you choked. When you are at full draw, a wandering mind sends your arrow wide.

The same focus required in combat sports applies at the range

Demitri has spent nearly two decades training this focus. Starting as a white belt in 2007, he climbed through blue, purple, and brown to earn his black belt. Thousands of hours of drilling, competing, losing, and coming back stronger.

Whether grappling in a gi or trading strikes in the cage, Demitri brings the same intensity. That is the crossover to archery – controlled aggression. You are calm, but ready. Relaxed, but explosive when needed.

Training at The Bears Den

If you are in Taiwan and want to train with Demitri, The Bears Den in Taichung is the place. He has built a gym focused on practical martial arts – BJJ, wrestling, MMA, Muay Thai, and boxing.

For archers visiting Taiwan, cross-training in grappling is not a bad idea. Core strength, breath control, mental toughness – it all transfers to the range.

The Way Forward

Demitri journey proves something we believe at Archery Supplier: discipline is discipline. Whether you are pulling a bowstring or sinking a rear-naked choke, the path to mastery is the same. Show up. Train. Compete. Learn. Repeat.

We are proud to spotlight athletes like Demitri who embody the warrior spirit – even if their weapon of choice is their own body rather than a bow.

Train hard. Aim true.
